Granite Floor

A granite floor would really give a place a modern touch. These days, floorings have become more beautiful with the use of wood, ceramic tile, or stone. Floors have evolved through the years from the ordinary dirt floor to a variety of materials and a more sophisticated composition and make up. Modern housing needs have developed so that a floor is not only a surface to walk on in a room or building. Subfloors are the spaces to put heating, wiring, and plumbing systems in a modern house. A granite floor is one example of stone flooring.

Granite is a coarse, gray-black igneous rock. It is commonly used as a construction stone. Paving blocks, curbstones, cobblestones, flagstones, foundations, tombstones, columns, pilasters, monuments, statuary, kitchen countertops, and stone vessel sinks as well as the granite floor all use this natural material quarried from the earth. It is well suited to such uses because it is a hard, tough, and durable stone that could withstand such treatment. Aside from these structural considerations, granite is also aesthetically pleasing. The look of granite cannot help but inspire admiration and awe for what it is that nature can offer. Color, texture, and design are never the same for each stone. Add to this the ability of granite to be polished to a fine finish and even lend itself to ornamentation, and it is no wonder that granite is a favorite of architects, builders, and designers.

A granite floor is usually built by cutting the stone into manageable tiles. This is then installed with the use of grout and mortar.
